1. Incident Scenario

Challenge Name: VoltPN
Author: ud1n
Category: Digital Forensics / Mobile Malware
Team: POROS (2byte, FAZer0, Araahi)
Date: 27 Juli 2026

A software developer noticed rapid battery drain and abnormal overnight data spikes. Sensitive confidential files were encrypted. Analyze the Android logical dump, identify the malware, and recover the victim’s data.

2. Investigation & Malware Disassembly

  1. Extracting the Android logical dump reveals a suspicious package under /data/data/com.voltvpn.pro.
  2. Inside /data/data/com.voltvpn.pro/files/, an encrypted container locked.enc was found.
  3. In /data/media/0/Download/, we found the installer APK. Using Apktool, we disassembled the APK into Smali bytecode.
  4. Inspecting smali_classes5/com/voltvpn/pro/service/NoteCryptor.smali revealed static cryptographic material:
    • Transformation: AES/CBC/PKCS5Padding
    • AES Key: V0ltVPN_K1C4uwWw
    • AES IV: 1a2b3c4d5e6f7890

3. Decryption & Artifact Carving

Decrypting locked.enc via AES-CBC produces a PNG image containing a Google Drive link and password clue:

the zip pass is:
mothers name_fav football club_cat name
(all lowercase)

Carving deleted SMS, contacts, and note records under /data/media/0/ gives:

  • Mother’s name: viona
  • Favorite football club: barcelona
  • Cat name: goolkie

Password: viona_barcelona_goolkie

Unzipping the archive reveals the final flag.
